A Summer Of Play!

A Summer of Play with The National Trust

Visitors to National Trust places across Lincolnshire are being invited to step back in time and enjoy traditional games and past-times this summer, just as the families who once lived there did in the past.

Games such as tennis, bowling and archery, became hugely popular amongst the upper-classes in the late 1700s. Whilst croquet was the big craze of the 1860s and would have been avidly played at many of the houses and estates in the charity’s care.

This summer, visitors can carry on this tradition and relax with a game of croquet in the picture-perfect surroundings of Gunby Hall. Or at Tattershall Castle, children can travel further back in time and see what passed for entertainment 500 years ago, with have-a-go medieval games and a historic children’s trail exploring this majestic castle.

Nicky Boden, Visitor Experience Consultant at the Trust said: ‘Whilst many things have changed over the years, the ways in which we like to relax and enjoy our free time have stayed remarkably the same. Whether that’s playing a traditional garden game; or just getting out into nature and building a den or climbing a tree.

‘Each place in our care is unique so we design the activities, trails and games to reflect the history of the place they’re in. This allows us to bring the stories of the people who once lived and work there to life, in hands-on and most of all, fun ways’.

This summer, visitors to National Trust places in Lincolnshire can have a go at playing games old and new.  Visit nationaltrust.org.uk/midlands for details of events and activities across the county.

Summer Holiday Farming Fun

The Pink Pig Farm is hosting a spectacular summer event from 26th July to 4th September where children have the opportunity to become farmers for a day.

All children receive a farmer passport with 9 tasks to complete around the farm. Once a task is completed they earn a stamp, a full passport with all 9 stamps earns them the title of Pink Pig Farmer along with a farmer certificate!

With tasks varying from pea planting to mud pie making, the farm has pulled out all the stops this summer to ensure families have an action packed day out to remember. They have acquired their very own giant inflatable obstacle course, and crafted brand new purpose built mud kitchens for children to get messy making mud pies, because you’re not a true farmer until you’re muddy!

The 2017 Skegness Carnival

Welcome to the circus and Skegness carnival

Skegness Carnival Committee arranges various events throughout the year, there are several Gala days which we hold on behalf of various charities - we organise the events, from dates to health & safety to erecting stalls to liaising with local authorities etc.

This is all done voluntarily to give the charities a platform, we get our fundraising through the famous Carnival barbeques which are always held at these events. We hold the Carnival Queen competition, where the Queen and 2 princesses are chosen for the years events. Carnival week is the highlight, the schedule will soon be on our page so you can see whats going on during the week. Then we have the Victorian Christmas market and Santa's Grotto which Skegness Hildreds Centre is kind enough to help us with. They provide us with the stunning grottoes year after year - we fly Santa in and the pressies.

Minilinguals Summer Spanish Class

We’re very excited to welcome Minilinguals to ANNUAL this summer where we will be hosting their awesome Spanish classes for your little ones!

Vicky Payne began Minilinguals after noticing how well her own children responded to music and rhyme in English; it made them beam, jiggle and coo, and eventually produce the language that they had been exposed to. She then began to play rhymes and songs in Spanish and lo and behold, it worked!

As a well versed teacher, Vicky was able to write a fun, effective and engaging curriculum based on music, play, signing and singing and her classes are now available nationally for children aged 3months – 7 years.

Vicky has a BA in French and Hispanic studies, an MA in Translation and Interpreting, and began teaching MFL in UK schools in 2004. Prior to that, she spent 5 years in France and Spain working as a translator, interpreter and teacher of English.

The classes are available across 4 different dates over the summer holidays

WHEN: 10:00 – 10:30 Monday 24th July / Monday 31st July / Monday 14th August / Monday 21st August

WHERE: Annual Store, 46-48 Grantham Street, Lincoln, LN2 1HZ, UK

WHO: children aged 3 months – 7 years

All children must be accompanied by an adult
