NAME OUR CHEWING GUM BLITZER
Great Gumbusters! Lincoln BIG is challenging children to come-up with a quirky name for its new street cleaning machine – and there’s a prize worth almost £50 up for grabs!
The city’s business improvement group has proudly launched a blitz on the problem of unsightly discarded gum, which is blighting the city’s street scene, by putting a gum removal machine to work, cleaning-up the pavements and making Lincoln more pleasant for shoppers and visitors.
We have also supplied shops, pubs and restaurants with our innovative “No Chewy On My Shoey” chewing gum disposal papers, in a drive to get people to dispose of their gum responsibly.
Lincoln BIG Chief Executive Sarah Loftus said: “Many of today’s young people care deeply about the environment and the world they are growing-up in. This is a topic which is reflected in many school projects.
“So we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to challenge young people (up to the age of 12) to come up with a really original name for our new gumbuster. We are thrilled that one of Lincoln BIG’s levy payers, The Entertainer, has thrown its weight behind us and offered a prize of toys and games to the value of about £50.”
Lincoln BIG teamed-up with the chewing gum machine sponsor Lincolnshire Co-op and the City of Lincoln Council to introduce the “steam cleaning” gum removal machine and we were also supported by the Lindum Group and, Optima Design Consultants, which designed our cheeky “No Chewy On My Shoey” gum disposal papers. They are already getting picked-up and used.
“We’re really excited to see how many different names young people come-up with. Lincolnshire County Council got some great answers when it decided to ask for potential names for its winter gritters – and we hope the gumbuster will generate some brilliant suggestions too.”
Manager at The Entertainer Clare Mather said: “Launching the chewing gum removal machine was a good move and it is a super idea to invite children to come-up a name for it.
“The Entertainer is delighted to offer a prize for the youngster who suggests the most appropriate name. Our prize will include an outdoor swingball game, a bubble machine and solution, books and a creative Bobble-It kit.”
We wish all the competition entrants the best of luck!
Entering is easy: Families simply need to email Richardbaxter@lincolnbig.co.uk with their child’s full name, age, address and their suggested name for the Gumbuster machine. Entries close on March 30.
