Do your best disguise to sneak in to the National Civil War Centre this holiday for a spectacular
Summer of Spies! From now to 2nd September, the whole family can enjoy a range of enticing espionage-themed activities from hilarious character performances to hands-on craft sessions. Hear two Civil War spies spill their secrets - Aphra Behn, mistress of all trades, will tell all about her radical life and extraordinary adventures while an anonymous spy who smuggled a message to besieged Newark’s governor will share the painfully uncomfortable tale of how he did it. You can also make a code-cracking spy kit, a sealed secret letter and a periscope to sneak a peek at the enemy. Plus, enjoy all this with 20% off admission for any group with a paying child, running throughout the holidays!

And during your visit, you can delve into the worlds of our temporary exhibitions! Shaking The
Foundations: The Quest For Democracy celebrates #vote100 and gives you the chance to get on our soapbox and cast your vote in our authentic 18th century ballot box whilst we chart the fight for equal voting rights back to the 17th century. Meanwhile, Cutting Edge: The Changing Tools of War gets visitors up close with the incredible advancements in weaponry and armour that were taking place during the Civil Wars with stunning examples of swords and muskets, and you can feel the weight of armour for yourself with our ‘weightscoat’! Information on everything happening at the National Civil War Centre this summer can be found at nationalcivilwarcentre.com
