Poster Puzzle

During the wars it wasn’t just the Straw family who were ‘doing their bit’ by growing at home. Everyone was encouraged to contribute what they could to their own table and every piece of land available was turned over to growing. This behaviour was encouraged by a government campaign that covered radio, film, newspapers, and perhaps most memorably, posters. A few of those posters can be found in the orchard and garden but unfortunately several of the words have gone missing, can you find their letters hiding amongst the fruit and vegetables? Come along any day from Tuesday 6th-Saturday 31st August from 10am-4pm. Tickets £2.

Henry’s Rose Without a Thorn Trail

It is the season for a royal progress…

It's the summer of 1541, and Henry VIII and his new Queen Catherine Howard- his Rose without a Thorn, set off on their progress North. During the progress they stayed as guest of the Burgh's at Gainsborough Old Hall. Unfortunately, not long after she lost her head! This summer there is a trail of roses around the hall on Saturday 10th August, follow them round and complete the quiz to claim your reward.
